"Big Medicine" bronze buffalo by award winning artist Charlie Pratt ca 2008. Buffalo measures 12" x 16" and the base measures 15" long, 7" wide and 1.5" tall. It has a gold signature horn toad on base as seen in the photo. Happy to send more photos by request. As one of seven children Charles Pratt was born in 1937 to Oscar Noble Pratt (Cheyenne/Arapaho) and Anna Guerrier Pratt Shadlow (Cheyenne/Sioux). His mother was a noted storyteller and was named 1987 National Indian Woman of the year and in 1991 the Oklahoma Indian Mother of the year. Charlie showed artistic talent at an early age. Making things from scraps and building things was a passion. He also enjoyed with the rest of his siblings hearing the stories from the elders. He inspired many young artists teaching his many talents to those willing to learn. He was named artist of the year in 1985 and 2004 and received the lifetime achievement award from the Indian Arts and Crafts Association, named Red Earth Honored one in 2000 in his home state of Oklahoma, and over 400 other awards . His work is in both public and private collections around the world. He sadly past away in 2017 due to complications with his decade long battle with parkinson's disease. RIP |
