Ira Funmaker Courting Flute and Bag
$795.00

Ira Funmaker from the Ho-Chunk Nation in Wisconsin, formerly known as the Winnebago and is well known for creating unique flutes from exotic woods.  He learned the art of flute making from a medicine man.  They are easily played by novice musicians partially because of an air chamber that is separate from the sound chamber which produces a hauntingly beautiful sound.  This flute has a great tone, and is carved from Guatemalen Rosewood with the head of a loon and a bird carving at the air chamber tied with buckskin.  It comes with a buckskin beaded bag with horsehair and cone tassles by unknown artist that previous owner purchased separately to store flute.  Flutes have been used mostly by Woodlands tribes, Southern and Northern Plains and the Southwestern people.  In earlier times said to be used for sending signals at night, but mostly used as a means to communicate Love.
